I was up bright and early today providing a program at the Allan R. Watson Prayer Breakfast, at Calvary Baptist Church. I want to thank the group for providing me with a wonderful-hearty breakfast to start off the day. It was nice to get out and enjoy some of the pleasant morning air. We tied another record low today with a temperature of 63 degrees; the old record for this date was 63 from 2003. Afternoon temperatures have reached the upper 80s and this hot weather will linger through the early evening. We will have a clearing sky tonight, with lows also approaching record levels. We’re forecasting a low of 64 degrees and tomorrow’s record low is 64 from 2003.
A broad high pressure cell is dominating the surface map this afternoon. This feature will keep us dry through tonight and tomorrow. There will be a front approaching on Sunday; however, storms will start developing out ahead of this front and dropping southward tomorrow night. There will be the chance for a shower or storm after midnight tomorrow night and during the day on Sunday. The front will drop into northern Alabama and stall by Monday. We will have a mostly cloudy sky for Monday and Tuesday, with a good chance for rain and thunderstorms. It won’t rain all the time each day, but we will have a good chance for some wet weather, especially in the afternoon hours. A strong disturbance will pass to our north on Wednesday and this will keep our area unsettled through next Thursday. Have a great weekend!
The Dog Days of Summer: We’re entering the dog days of summer and we’re asking viewers to send in pictures of their dogs beating the heat. Last year we had so much fun with this and we want to do it again. We will begin showing pictures during our weather segments on Monday. Please send your pictures to: wxpics@wvuatv.com
