Tropical Storm Fay Update – 9:03 p.m.

Fays NHC Forecast

The forecast for Fay has changed some since earlier this aftenroon. The National Hurricane Center’s forecast brings the storm out into the Atlantic Ocean just off of Central Florida tomorrow morning. While over the warm waters of the western Atlantic, it is expected to intensify into a category one hurricane.

Because of a strong pressure building in to the east coast, Fay will be pushed back to the west. It’s then expected to make landfall, again, in northern Florida or southern Georgia. From there, it’s expected to continue westward into southern Alabama by late Friday or early Saturday.

This system will really slow down over southern Alabama. That means we could see significant rainfall in parts of our area this weekend, starting Friday and lasting through Monday. If this forecast verifies, areas especially south of Tuscaloosa could see several inches of rain.

This forecast can, and will, change over the next few days, so please keep up with what is expected with Fay.
