Friday Afternoon Discussion/More Severe Weather?

Here are some more rain totals from yesterday’s event: Selma and Clanton: 1.22”, Oneonta: 0.87”, Centreville: 0.57”, & Jasper: 0.60”. Today the radar is quiet, but it won’t stay that way for long. In fact, we could have a stray shower or thunderstorm late tonight. I do expect the sky to stay mostly clear through a good portion of the evening, with a few clouds around late tonight. If a storm manages to develop to our southwest in the more unstable environment this might hold together as it tracks east. Therefore, I’m going to mention a stray thunderstorm or shower for late tonight.

The latest word from SPC is that a moderate risk for severe weather borders our west Alabama counties tomorrow. We will be watching a cluster of storms marching in from the northwest and these will be closing in on our area late. There will be a threat for high winds, large hail, and isolated tornadoes with these cells. This activity will mainly start to impact our area tomorrow; however, scattered thunderstorms will be possible with daytime heating tomorrow afternoon. The good thing is that the strong storms marching in from the west should start weakening as they move in tomorrow night. Now the data is supporting the higher threat for rain during the morning hours on Sunday. The stormy weather will shift east allowing for some clearing Sunday night. If you have plans with mom on Sunday, the morning will likely be the more unsettled time of day. Severe weather will be possible and if any severe storms develop, we will be there to let you know.

Monday and Tuesday will be very pleasant days, with scattered thunderstorms returning during the mid-portion of next week. On Wednesday, we will have a chance for a thunderstorm late and a band of rain and thunderstorms may push into West Alabama on Thursday. Some of the storms on Thursday may also be on the severe side.
