Tuesday Afternoon Discussion

Currently we have temperatures in the lower 80s, with more clouds filtering in from the west. Even though we had a day full of sunshine, there have been some high thin clouds rolling through from time to time. Tonight the sky will be partly cloudy, with lows dropping into the middle 50s.

On the national scene, rain and thunderstorms have re-developed over the Plains States. A tornado watch is in effect for west Texas and severe thunderstorm watches are in place for parts of Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota. We will stay dry over the Deep South through tomorrow as high pressure keeps a lid on rainfall development. Things will change greatly on Thursday as a healthy disturbance over southwest moves into our region.

Tomorrow we will have a partly to mostly sunny sky, with highs in the 80s. Look for increasing clouds, with rain and thunderstorms likely on Thursday. The main window for rain will be during the afternoon and evening hours. We will also be watching the radar closely, as some of the storms may be severe. There will be some favorable upper air support pivoting through the state.

Looking ahead, a stray thunderstorm can’t be ruled out on Friday as we will experience a big time warm-up. Highs will be in the upper 80s, with some spots near 90-degrees. Saturday will be another very warm day; however, we should remain dry. A cold front will drop in on Sunday and this feature will bring another likelihood of rain and storms. Some of the storms may be severe with this system, followed by clearing early next week. Be sure to join us tonight for more details!
