Good Afternoon! For the first time in months, the sky remained overcast through much of the day. This helped to filter out the sunshine and make for more pleasant temperatures. The clouds started breaking in the afternoon and this has allowed for a rapid warm-up into the upper 80s.
We’ve had some surprise developments today as a tropical storm has now formed in the northwest Gulf of Mexico. Over the past few days I’ve mentioned a tropical disturbance in the Gulf and now that feature has managed to rapidly organize into Tropical Storm “Humberto.” This system won’t have much time to organize as it will be making a landfall just southwest of Houston, TX overnight.
Humberto will pull lots of moisture northward and this will send the front that moved through yesterday northward tomorrow. Look for more clouds with a good chance for a passing shower or thunderstorm, especially in the afternoon. Some of the storms could be strong. Friday Humberto’s remnants will track northeast towards Greenville, MS. We will remain quite cloudy as another more potent cold front drops in from the north. Look for a good chance of showers and thunderstorms, which is just what we need!
As the upper air pattern shifts and drives the front through, cooler and drier air will settle in. You can expect a return to sunshine late Saturday and during the day Sunday, with highs in the low 80s and lows near 59-degrees. There could be some lingering rain early Saturday morning as the front pushes through and it will be quite breezy. Early next week I’m expecting lots of sunshine for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Temperatures will remain pleasantly warm, with lows in the 60s. We will have to keep an eye on a new tropical depression, which could develop into the next named tropical system, “Ingrid.” This system is in the Atlantic and will track northeast towards the U.S. Virgin Islands over the next several days.
