Even though high temperatures have been on the steamy side today, we’ve had a pleasant southeast wind to help with the hot weather. We’ve dealt with a lot of clouds today as debris clouds from the activity that impacted Arkansas yesterday, shifts across Alabama. Tonight a stray shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out, with lows dropping to near 70-degrees.
There are several distinct weather features we’ll be monitoring in the days ahead. With that said, our weather won’t be taking any drastic turns in any given direction. I’m expecting tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday to be days with times of clouds and sun. A predominately easterly flow will be in place through Sunday thanks to a surface high to our northeast and low pressure approaching the east coast. This will keep the heat and humidity from getting too out of hand. Each day a stray shower or thunderstorm can’t be ruled out, especially in the afternoon hours. Highs will be near 92-degrees, with lows near 70. The mentioned area of low pressure to our east remains over the open Atlantic Ocean. As upper air winds become more favorable, this system could become better organized and develop into a tropical cyclone. The forecasted westward track would bring this feature near the Carolinas early next week.
From looking at today’s forecasted upper air charts, the setup sure throws out hints of fall. A deep upper air trough will dig into the central U.S. next week and this will guide a cold front through our area during the Monday/Tuesday time frame. This will bring us a good chance of rain early next week and also the threat for some strong or severe thunderstorms. Beyond that point we will enjoy some cooler/less humid air for Wednesday and Thursday of next week. Highs by next Wednesday and Thursday will be struggling to break into the mid 80s.
