Friday Afternoon Forecast Discussion Update

November 10, 2006

Today was one of those days we’re I wanted to simply take the day off! The weather was perfect, with temperatures in the upper 70s and a nice comfortable breeze. A south wind is in place and this wind will keep us in the upper 50s to low 60s tonight. At last report we were at 77-degrees and from this point temperatures will be on a steady fall. Cold air is on the way and leading this air mass is a front now crossing into Arkansas and moving through east Texas. A tornado watch is in place for northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. North of that point a severe thunderstorm watch is in place.

We are continuing to see clouds move in and overnight the clouds will thicken. A stray shower could pop-up over communities northwest of Tuscaloosa, after midnight. We will see showers and thunderstorms by daybreak and due to the timing, I’m not concerned with severe weather. This activity will taper off from west to east tomorrow and it’s going to be much cooler. Highs for our Veterans Day will only be in the 50s early on and there will be a cold north wind by the afternoon. The clouds may linger in many neighborhoods through a good portion of the day, but I am expecting clearing tomorrow night. This will allow us to drop into the middle 30. This is going to be another big change for us! Today we are near 80-degrees and this time tomorrow we will be looking at low 50s to upper 40s over the state. Tomorrow night the lows will be in the 30s.

Sunday will be another dry day, with sunshine returning. I’ve mentioned before that the long-range data has been all over the place and now the data is developing low pressure further south by Monday. This scenario will still bring increasing clouds on Monday, with a stray shower Monday night. The low is projected to pass south of us on Tuesday and this will bring us showers, with the greatest chance in communities south of Tuscaloosa. Thunderstorms won’t be a big concern as the unstable air will be well south of us. Highs that day will stay in the 60s. Wednesday now looks like a dry day and a weaker disturbance, now advertised by the models, looks to bring showers next Thursday. We will continue to fine tune the forecast, be sure to join us tonight at five, six, and ten for more details!
